What to see/do in area

Am spending a week in area and will have 2 or 3 hours of free time from time to time to explore area and wondered what you would recommend. Interest in outdoors, sea, natural scenery rather than bars, indoor places like museums, etc.

What to see/do in area

I might be too late, but if you have access to a car, explore the shore line streching from Hingham to Plymouth. It%26#39;s a beautiful drive! :) You can also just walk around in the small towns and enjoy the picturesque buildings. There are also a few bigger parks in the area, such as Wompatuck State park in Cohasset/Hingham and World%26#39;s end (Hingham).

What to see/do in area

Thank you - leaving early next week and had a look at map for the area of coast you mention - wonder if 3A is the closest to ocean to take?

Driving along the coast will take you back to 3A eventually, as that%26#39;s the only way to cross the water in Marshfield. There%26#39;s not too much to see along 3A though, so try sticking to the smaller roads. I would suggest starting out at Jerusalem Road in Cohasset, and then just try and stay as close to the water as you can. It%26#39;s possible to go along the water from Cohasset all the way down through Scituate on just the small streets.

I would also suggest taking a detour to Hull, go all the way to where the road ends and take in the views of Boston waterfront. In the weather is nice the beach in Nantasket is also nice. The ice cream at Rosa%26#39;s is great!

Make sure to take a ride on Jerusalem Rd in Cohasset.

It is along the sea, and has some great views.

Hi Avoca,

The south shore towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Marshfield, Duxbury, etc. are mainly upper middle class to wealthy suburban towns, so it%26#39;s mostly residential areas. There are areas of open ocean to look at on a drive through there, but those are mostly found at the small beaches that each town has. Your more likely to see very nice homes than beautiful open water views, since alot of the coastline is very nice private properties. For a more open feeling for water views, I would suggest hopping on route 3 south to Plymouth, which has a nice harborfront and is more tourist friendly. That%26#39;s about a 25 minute drive from Cohasset. If you went another 20 minutes further down route 3 from Plymouth, it would take you to the Sagamore Bridge, the gateway to Cape Cod. Take the exit BEFORE the bridge (route 6 west) which is a scenic highway. There%26#39;s a couple or three scenic overlooks there, plus little fried clam shacks and shops along the way. It%26#39;s only about 6 miles long. Then you will come to the Bourne Bridge. Follow the signs to go over the bridge and take the first exit OVER the bridge, which is route 6A east. That will take you along the other side of the canal and back to the Sagamore Bridge. From this point, you have two options. You can continue on 6A eeast which is an incredibly beautiful drive through the towns of Sandwich, Barnstable, Yarmouthport, etc. It%26#39;s listed as one of the top 100 best drives in America. Or, if you don%26#39;t have the time to drive it, go back over the Sagamore Bridge and back up route 3 north to Cohasset. It will be a far more enjoyable experience than tinkering around in the South Shore towns.

Thanks - I was in Cape Cod for a week last year and saw Sandwich and many areas mentioned so may skip the bridges and that area this year.

I am staying on Jerusalem Road in Cohasset so glad of those suggestions. Expect to arrive around noon and have 4 hours to explore area before landing where I am staying so may meander down to Plymouth and explore town as does not seem to be far from Cohasset - wondering how long a drive? Wonder if any suggestions for an affordable eating place with a view in area?

Hull is a nice place to park the car and walk the beach. Jerusalem Road is very nice to drive only. Jeruslaem will leave the water, stay on the beach road which turns into Atlantic Ave. There will be a beach you can stop at. Stay close to the car, a permit is needed. But there is a bath house to freshen up at.

Cohasset Village is a a great place to walk around. French Memory Bakery is a must. Plenty of free parking around here and no time limit.

There will be places in Hull to eat with a view. Hull is 5 minutes from where you are staying.

If you do take a day trip down to Plymouth, it%26#39;s a 25 minute drive down route 3 south from Cohasset. There%26#39;s plenty of parking around. Go to Water Street and the Town Wharf. It%26#39;s like a small ';restaurant row'; of places. It%26#39;s mostly seafood, but there are other options as well. East Bay Grill, Blue Eyed Crab, and Isaac%26#39;s are all on Water St. Places like the Cabby Shack and Lobster Hut are a very short walk away at the Wharf area.

Thanks for names of places to eat - looking forward to walking around Cohasset and Plymouth.
