Places to stay in Boston

Any tips or pointers on reasonably priced places to stay in Boston? I am planning to see some friends at MIT over the Jul 4 weekend but will be traveling alone. My price range is $70-80 a day, so I am looking for a place that is affordable, safe with easy accessibility to public transportation and preferably close to Cambridge.

Someone suggested the Amory Guest House. Has anyone heard of that place or tried it before?

I%26#39;m not familiar w/ the place you mention, but if it%26#39;s conveniently located and in your price range grab it because I don%26#39;t think at this late date you%26#39;ll find much in that priceline near MIT for July 4.

I know nothing of the place itself, but Central Square would be a great place to stay.

Some colleges make dorm rooms available during the summer for overnight guests at a very low rate. Ask your MIT friends if MIT does anything like that.
