Car Rental Query

Myself and my friend are flying into Logan in August. We are planning to head to the White Mountain region but due to the length of the flight are going to stay the first night in Boston. We are a bit nervous about driving in downtown Boston so were thinking of renting a car at Logan in the hopes of avoiding major traffic/stress etc! Should we stay near Logan or should we stay downtown and then head back out to Logan the next day to get the car?

We have never been to Boston before so would like to stay downtown but if it is going to be loads of hassle to get the car the next day then maybe it is not worth it. Presumably though if we stayed near Logan we could use public transport to go downtown?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You don%26#39;t want the car downtown. You don%26#39;t need it and you will pay dearly to park it (if one weekday). There are car rental places downtown. I think you should just pick one up downtown when you are ready to leave. If you are going to the White Mountains you will be heading up 93. 93 runs right through (no really under) Boston. It is pretty easy to get onto 93 from downtown.

Absolutely agree with ';Cabinet.';

DO NOT HAVE A CAR IN BOSTON!@#

(and I live right downtown.).

I suggest the following:

1.Reserve a car at one of the many rental companies at the airport and pick it up the next day. The subway is great and very direct and safe from the airport in to town. Logan Airport is on the harbor, so getting into town is very quick too.

Book a hotel in town that is within your budget, hop on the ';T';, as we call it, and be stress-free for the evening.

If you book your car at the airport, you can easily get back out there, either on the subway or even by taxi. Although taxi fares are going up here in the city, I would spend the money to have the taxi take you straight to your rental car company. ---and a taxi certainly isn%26#39;t as expensive as in Dublin!

Once at one of the airport car companies, you can easily get on 93 North , heading into New Hampshire and the White Mountains.

2. Downtown , there are a few car rental companies, in the Financial District of the City, and are positioned to take you somewhat quickly on to 93 North.

But, my first suggestion, I believe to be less of a hassle.

Oh, and you can also take the water shuttle into the city from the airport, get off at the Boston Harbor Hotel area. Pretty way to come in during the summer months. Not that expensive.

From the Boston Harbor Hotel, you can pick up a taxi to take you to your hotel from there.

---this suggestion is a bit more costly than the subway, but the shuttle/taxi does offers better views of the city, since you%26#39;re only here for a short stay.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

K/Boston

Thanks so much for your advice - very clear and helpful!
