Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket

We%26#39;ll be on the cape for 10 days in the beginning of Aug. Thought about taking 12 yr old and 8 yr old boys to one of the islands. Recommendations?

Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket

Hi There Foggy, I sent you a recommendation for some reading material that I%26#39;ve always enjoyed and that may help you with your question. Just look for the private messge at the top right of your screen.

While I like both islands I%26#39;m going to ';vote'; for Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. Suggest you check out the message board over there for some ideas that appeal to you. BTW, you can get around MV on the shuttle bus for $1 a ride or rent bikes, mopeds or even a car. Your options will all be spelled out in the stuff I suggested to you. Have a great vacation!

Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket

I would vote also for the Vineyard, rent bikes when you get there and pedal around, if you can manage the crowds. Nantucket is ';better'; however if you love long ferry rides but is quite expensive to visit. Nantucket will probably be quieter, easier to move around while the Vineyard will have ';more'; to do and see with the kids in mind. Just keep in mind that the ferries sometimes require advanced reservations to take your car (I live near Boston and rarely go to either place but I doubt the ferry situation has changed) and August is still height of the season so be prepared for huge crowds on the Vineyard. An alternative might be to find the ferry that goes to Cuttyhunk for a very laid back day on a small beach and tiny town. Its officially the town of Gosnold, Mass, is a tiny island/town, very sweet, not much to do but lie on the beach but the ferry ride would be fun.

I would say the Vineyard.

Vineyard- for all the above reasons. You%26#39;ll be parking in Falmouth. Be sure to visit or lovely town before or after. Drive along the shore by Nobska Lighthouse. Stop for a clam roll on the harbor. See the Aquarium n Woods Hole with it%26#39;s touch tank. Or, stroll along the best Main Street on Cape Cod. You%26#39;ll be glad you did.

I would also say the Vineyard. You do not have to go out of Falmouth, you can also go out of Hyannis. If taking your car, go out from Falmouth. But if you are going for a day, wouldn%26#39;t bother with a car.
