Getting to Salem?

I am packing our itinerary pretty tight. We want to to much as we possibly can while we are in town. We have one day free until about 3:00 and we%26#39;re thinking of going to Salem to the witch museum. It looked like it would take us an hour and a half by public transportaion (commuter rail and T--our nearest station is Arlington). Does that sound right? Do you think the museum is worth the trip and time?

Getting to Salem?

Salem is not just the Witch Museum. If you%26#39;re only going for that, I wouldn%26#39;t. However, Salem is an interesting town with much to see, but it%26#39;s very difficult to assign priority without knowing the context of the rest of your ';tight'; itinerary. How long are you here? How much time is allocated to Boston? Where else are you planning to go?

Getting to Salem?

We have five days in Boston. We are going to two Red Sox games, one evening and afternoon, and we will be there when the doors open--two hours before game time I think. (My husband is a kid at heart and likes to watch BP and warm ups). We are doing a Duck Tour, Fenway Tour, JFK birthplace, Lexingon/Concord, Freedom Trail, public garden and swan boats, and possibly Harvard. We%26#39;ll do Plymouth Colony on our way to Cape Cod and ';relax'; the last two days before going home. We%26#39;ve never been to Boston and probably will never be back. I want to pack as much into our time as possible. We have two boys, 11 and 13. Both love the Red Sox and history. One just finished a Massachusetts state report for school today. In a nutshell, we are coming Boston because is the best place to experience baseball and history. (Each summer we drive 4 hours to Seattle to watch 2 Red Sox games. This year we get to come to Boston instead!)

You could spend the extra time in Boston by making sure you visit Harvard square and Harvard Yard (I think a must for your kids), The Aquarium, more time on the Freedom Trail (including the tour of Old Ironsides), a walk on Beacon Hill, an afternoon at Quincy Market, a dinner in the North End.

If you insist you want to go to Salem, please also include the Salem Harbor Area and the House of Seven Gables.

Alan%26#39;s right, Salem is a great place but not worth the trip if you only have a few hours. You can also get there by boat .... I think you pick it up near Northern Ave,

Thank you for helpful suggestions. I guess we%26#39;ll skip Salem since we don%26#39;t have a block of time large enough to do it justice.
