Best way to travel between Providence, RI and Provincetown

Hello,

Can anyone recommend the best way to travel between Providence, RI and Provincetown, MA? We can%26#39;t decide between driving up to Boston and taking the 90 minute ferry, or just driving directly from Providence (I believe it%26#39;s about 3 hours each way). Interested to hear from locals which method they would choose. We are renting a car, but I%26#39;ve heard the traffic driving out to the Cape can be a nightmare. It%26#39;s only for one day, on Friday, June 13. Thanks for your help.

Friday morning traffic to Provincetown should be fine. But why would you drive all that way just for the day? Why don%26#39;t you at least spend a night? And are you staying in Boston at some point, anyway? Then maybe the ferry for a day trip would make more sense.

If you are staying even for one night on the outer cape it makes more sense to drive the 2 1/2-3 hours it will take you to get from Providence to Provincetown. Alanm is correct. It%26#39;s just too far to drive for a day, turn around and then drive to Boston!

The ferry from Boston to Provincetown for a day trip absolutely makes the most sense. I always choose a boat over a car if given the choice!

Ptown is a great place for a day trip: galleries, shops, whale watches, fantastic views and restaurants and the whole place is very accessible by walking.

Since you only have one day you want to spend your time enjoying Provincetown and not traveling right.

You are starting in Providence Rhode Island and not in Boston therefore you%26#39;ll have more time in Provincetown if you simply drive there from Providence. Plus, if you are concerned about traffic, then you don%26#39;t want to add in a trip to Boston.

The op hadn%26#39;t made up their mind re: which route to take...it seems to be up in the air as to where they%26#39;ll leave from, either Boston or Providence:

Again, if you decide to drive to Boston, explore there a bit before going to the Cape, a one day stay on Ptown would best be enjoyed by getting there via the ferry. Have a great time!

All - thanks very much for your responses, I appreciate your time and knowledge!
