One night lodging on Cape needed before rental

We are travelling to the Cape in early August.

Our weekly rental does not begin until Saturday afternoon, but we are going to get over the Sagamore bridge before noon on the Friday before, to avoid some of the traffic.

We need a hotel for the one night - something clean and comfortable - for the four of us (2 adults, 2 children 7 and 10 years old).

We would like a pool to occupy the kids for the day.

Two options are the Courtyard Hyannis and the Best Western Blue Rock Golf Resort. They are both about $200 a night.

Any comments on these two, or other suggestions are welcome.

Our rental is in Brewster so ideally, do not want to go up the Cape. Furthest along would be Harwich/Chatham probably.

Thanks!

Were you able to reserve just ONE night at Courtyard Hyannis or The Best Western or do you just Hope to do so? I am very suprised that you were able to reserve just One night as there is traditionally a 2-3 night minimum during high season (especially on the weekends.) If you were able to reserve for one night on the Cape, I%26#39;d say just go for it and pick one!

If you can%26#39;t reserve for just one night at either of the two hotels you listed, I%26#39;d try to reserve off Cape for that one night.

I was able to reserve just one night in Hyannis at the Courtyard. It is not my first choice, but looks like a decent place and it is only for one night. Actually I have never been to Hyannis. We have spent most of our time on the Cape in Truro (WONDERFUL place!).

A lot of B %26amp; B%26#39;s do not accept children under 12, and most of the motels require a 3 night reservation.

I will cehck closer to the date to see if I can find something else that has come up for a one nighter.

Thanks for your adivice.

The Courtyard looks perfectly fine when I checked it online and seems to get good reviews on TACC. You%26#39;re right near the mall and the movies!

This place is perfect for your one night (but it looks like many people are there for longer, vacation stays).

Try All Seasons in South Yarmouth:

Naomi :-)

I%26#39;m sure that the Courtyard is fine and would be within quick striking distance of Brewster on Saturday.

Another thought is to book a night at the John Carver Inn in Plymouth, MA. They have a popular indoor theme pool that kids enjoy and you%26#39;d be all set if the weather is bad. As long as you get over the Sagamore bridge by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, you%26#39;ll be fine. We do it often and our rule is ';over the bridge by 9'; and never have trouble.

Where are you staying in Brewster? We have a place there so I%26#39;d be happy to often any ideas on activities, restaurants, shopping if you need them.

ccrosner:

We are renting in Ocean Edge for the first time. We picked it mainly because of the proximity to the Cape activities, and for the pools for the kids.

I would have liked to rent a home near a beach with a private pool but - SHEESH - those are really $$$. We would need to bring another family along in order to do that and we wanted just the four of us for this vacation.

I looked at the John Carver and it does look great for kids. I think though that I%26#39;ll stick with the Courtyard so we%26#39;ll be on the Cape already and we can relax a little.

If you could advise:

which beaches are the nicest for the kids

where to get a steamed lobster take-out dinner (Breakaway or Breakwater??)to enjoy at our rental

and where is the best place to do our grocery shopping

I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

You will be very happy with your choice of Ocean Edge. We stayed there a few years ago while they were doing some work on our house, and it was convenient, quiet and the kids loved the indoor pool on bad days. You also have easy access to the bike path which is a ton of fun. Ride it to Orleans for lunch or coffee, etc. or go the other way for some cranberry bogs.

As you probably know, the Brewster fronts on Cape Cod Bay which has very fun tides. When the tide is out, you can walk for about a mile (really), but when it%26#39;s in, you can swim. I%26#39;m pretty sure you can use the Ocean Edge beach (a shuttle or car ride away) or you can get a beach sticker (less than $15) at Town Hall on 6A and go to places like Linnell Landing, Crosby Landing, Breakwater or Saints Landing. They all have portable toilets and have similarly sized parking lots.

If you hit some hot days (like the past few!) and low tide hits in the afternoon, I would suggest going to Long Pond to cool off. It%26#39;s a small beach and smallish parking lot but at least the water is always there! Or go over to Nauset Beach (in Orleans) where they have a huge parking lot, toilets, a snack bar and a beautiful beach with cold water and great waves!

For food shopping, I might suggest that you try the Stop and Shop in Dennis on your way into Brewster. You take Exit 9A toward Dennisport and it will be right on your left. Otherwise, I like the Stop and Shop in Orleans where Route 6 meets 6A (at the rotary). The closest store is Shaw%26#39;s at Skaket Corners (route 6A) in Orleans....it%26#39;s fine but I%26#39;m a Stop and Shop lady.

Be sure to leave time to visit the Brewster Store and Strawberry Patch for some shopping. We love both.

Forget your other question...will write again soon.

You could also try Skaket Beach in Orleans, walk for ever when the tide is out. There%26#39;s a snack bar, toilets and showers.
