Plymouth beaches?

I%26#39;m planning a trip for my daughter and myself in late June. We%26#39;re doing the Plimouth Plantation and Mayflower, Jenney Gristmill and walking around downtown (had lots of ancestors there, including John Jenney.)

But I was thinking about a beach afternoon. Are either of these beaches worthwhile? Or are there better ones within a reasonable driving distance from Plymouth that you would recommend instead? (I saw one comment here that suggested not to bother with local beaches but I wasn%26#39;t sure if that was what everyone thought.)

Plymouth Long Beach, Warren Av. (Route 3A) (south of downtown about 2.5 miles on left just before Bert%26#39;s Stone Forge restaurant). Parking: $10 Lifeguards, restrooms, food.

or

Scusset Beach, End of Meetinghouse Rd./Scusset Beach Rd. (Exit 1a off Rt 3) State-run beach just north of the east end of the Canal and just south of Plymouth. Picnic tables, food, playground, rest rooms, lifeguard, camping area. Parking: $7 April-November

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Plymouth beaches?

Hi,

Of the two mentioned, I would go to Scusset. It%26#39;s not a bad beach to spend the afternoon. If you want an even better beach nearby, go across the Sagamore and take the first exit which is route 6A. Take 6A into Sandwich and hit either Sandy Neck, Town Neck or East Sandwich Beaches.Drive time is about 15-20 minutes. Town Neck is nice and the super long boardwalk to reach it is so ';Cape Cod';. The only problem you may run into is finding parking since you plan to go in the afternoon. I%26#39;m sure you can find something somewhere. So Scusset or the others will do.

Plymouth beaches?

Scusset%26#39;s main advantage is plenty of parking, IMO. One end is bordered by a jetty, with the Cape Cod Canal on the other side of it, which folks like myself who enjoy fishing find is a good location. It also has camping. The Canal traffic is interesting, but the beach is nothing special, clean and usually with small waves.

The other Plymouth beach where we used to go is White Horse.

Well, I%26#39;ll break with the others and suggest Plymouth Beach (Long Beach). It%26#39;s a 3 mils spit of land that juts out into Cape Cod Bay. I haven%26#39;t heard of any parking issues and there are amenities on the beach (restaurant, restrooms, lifeguards).

Someone else mentioned Whitehorse beach, and although it%26#39;s a very nice beach there%26#39;s a lack of amenities and parking which make it a bit more difficult.

Have fun!
